Non-surgical face lift @ Regent Street Clinic™

What is a PDO Thread Lift?
PDO therapy is an effective cosmetic technique that lifts and tighten sagging skin tissues by inducing collagen production. It involves the implantation of fine, absorbable polydioxanone threads (similar to those used in medical suturing) into the subcutaneous layer of the skin using small needles. These threads remain implanted in the skin causing micro-injuries that stimulate collagen synthesis and tissue contraction. After six months, the threads will be absorbed into the body leaving new collagen in their place.

Non-surgical face lift @ Regent Street Clinic™

The procedures is usually carried out using local anaesthetic, and there is very little downtime, if any, depending on the treatment area. Side effects are minimal but may include swelling and bruising that lasts 2-3 days, and patients can continue with normal activities immediately after.

PDO Therapy  can be used on the cheeks, brow, jawline, neck, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, arms, thighs and abdomen. The lifting effect is at its peak after 6 months when collagen has formed around the threads, and lasts between 18months - two years.

How does the Thread Lift work?

The threads used in the Thread Lift are made of soluble PDO (polydioxanone) which is a material that has been used in medicine for many years, mainly in surgery. However, research has shown that PDO relaxes muscles and tendons, and also stimulates the neocollagenesis process, which encourages the production of new collagen in the skin. PDO also stimulates the synthesis of elastin and hyaluronic acid in the skin, both of which are vital for keeping the skin looking plump and youthful.
PDO Thread Lift
The PDO thread is inserted into the skin through a very fine needle. Depending on the area to be treated, the thread is introduced into either the skin itself, the subcutaneous fat, or the muscle. A lifted appearance can be seen immediately following the treatment; however, the results will improve in the following days and weeks as the PDO stimulates neocollagenesis, which in turn produces collagen. The overall texture of the skin is improved; it becomes thicker, tighter and firmer and fine lines and wrinkles are smoothed away.

Different thicknesses and types of thread are used for different areas of the face. Short, non-barbed threads can be used to treat fine lines on the face, as well as tightening and lifting areas such as the jaw line and neck. Thicker "cogs" or barbed threads can give a significant improvement to the mid and lower face. Sometimes we will use a combination of both non-barbed and barbed threads to give best results.

Thread Lift by Regent Street Clinic™

The threads are naturally absorbed by the body in six to eight months; however, the effect of the treatment can last for up to two years.

Which areas can be treated with PDO threads?

The threads are extremely versatile and can be used all around the face and neck.
The Thread Lift can treat vertical and horizontal wrinkles on the following areas:

  • Forehead
  • Sagging brows
  • Drooping cheeks
  • Pronounced nasolabial (nose to mouth) folds
  • Marionette (corner of mouth to chin) folds
  • PDO threads can also be used for the following:
  • Sagging jawline
  • Neck / decolletage
  • Chin
  • Jowls
  • Eye bags
  • Abdominal lipolysis (fat breakdown)
  • Bum lift
  • Skin rejuvenation
  • Smoothing wrinkles
  • Narrowing the pores
  • Skin Lightening
  • Increase the volume
  • Lifting the skin
  • ANTI-AGEING, fresher, younger appearance.

What results can I expect with the PDO lift?

The PDO threads will give the skin an immediate, natural improvement in appearance. After about 10-14 days, the process of natural body protein synthesis begins and continues over a period of two years, keeping the texture of the skin smooth and supple.
PDO thread lifting

Lifting PDO thread is a treatment dedicated primarily for patients aged 30-65 years, however the benefits extend to all age ranges.

The treatment effects are:

Patient selection and good communication is essential

The technique for thread insertion is relatively straightforward, provided suitably trained and experienced practitioners carry it out. It is important, prior to any treatment, that certain criteria are assessed to determine the patient’s suitability for PDO threads. Firstly, the patient’s medical history has to be checked. Auto-immune diseases, hepatitis B and C, HIV infection, pregnancy and breastfeeding, anti-caogulation therapy, existing infection and history of keloid formation are all contraindications for treatment.

Care should be taken with patients who appear to be suffering from body dysmorphia. These patients sometimes demand results, which a non-surgical procedure like PDO threads cannot achieve.

PDO threadlifting can give good results in the late 30s to 60s age group where a ‘finger’ test is positive, however it is not suitable for everyone. The test is positive if a finger can be used to get a satisfactory face or neck lift with a little finger skin elevation. The elevation, in my method, should need the finger to move 1-3cm only. In very lax skin or in very obese patients, a much greater finger elevation is needed – the finger may need to be elevated three or more centimetres. If the finger test is considered negative, then the patient would not be a suitable candidate for a PDO threadlift.

Excellent lower face lifting and anti-ageing rejuvenation achieved using twisted mono threads with a 29G needle size.

The procedure was vitually painless and there was minimal bruising with no downtime whatsoever.

PDO thread lifting can be achieved with straight mono threads as well as coiled treads, the super spring thread, which adds volume as well as lift.

Lip Fillers Sheffield

Our experience

Our doctors have over 20 years experience in lip augmentation procedures and offer a subtle plumping of lips to leave a full-bodied, youthful appearance.

In our experience the vast majority of people are looking for a gentle re-volumisation of lips that may have thinned with passage of time.

We use Juvéderm Ultra Smile, a  product that we have achieved excellent results with, and a lip filler that contains a local anaesthetic to minimise discomfort during the procedure. It comes in a 0.55ml syringe and we are careful to make sure the treatment is likely to give a pleasing aesthetic result and that each client's expectations are realistic.

Lip Fillers Sheffield

There are two parts of each lip that can be injected - the actual lip BODY and the outer rim, known as the VERMILLION BORDER.

Our doctors and aesthetics co-ordinators will work out, with you, depending on the look you wish to achieve, which parts of the lip would benefit most from treatment and how much lip filler is likely to be needed to achieve the desired result.

Please remember that after treatment there is ALWAYS some swelling of the lips, therefore the lips will initially look bigger than the final result once the swelling has subsided a couple of days later.

Why do lips thin with age?

Over time, the lips' volume and natural connective tissue depletes, leaving a thinner, flatter appearance.

Wrinkles and fine lines compromise their smooth look, and the vermillion borders and Cupid's bow become less defined. Around the mouth, the area between your upper lip and nose can become flattened, and the corners of the mouth may turn downward, creating a tired, aged appearance.
Regent Street Clinic Lip Filler

Juvéderm ® ULTRA SMILE provides full, soft, natural looking lips and can be used to smooth fine lines and enhance the mouth area as well as the lips. It is gentle, with an added anaesthetic for the most comfortable treatment experience possible.

Juvéderm ® ULTRA SMILE helps fight the signs of aging, by addressing the lips' texture and smoothness and filling the lines and wrinkles caused by smoking and pursing your lips over time, and by adding volume for a fresh, natural, and reinvigorated look.

The procedure

First, the doctor will take pre-treatment photographs of the lips and will then clean the area to be treated.

Juvéderm  ULTRA SMILE is formulated with added lidocaine for added comfort, but the doctor will also choose to use additional topical anaesthetic cream to ensure the most comfortable treatment possible (we use LMX4 cream).
Private GP Services
As the anaesthetic takes effect you are likely to feel numbness and a bit of tingling in the area that has been treated—similar to when the dentist numbs your teeth.

The actual treatment takes roughly 15 minutes. The exact injection technique will depend on the type of results you’re hoping to achieve. The doctor may massage the treatment site to make sure the Juvéderm  ULTRA SMILE is properly distributed and the results are even.

The doctor may also apply ice to your treatment sites for a few minutes to help minimise swelling, inflammation, and bruising.

How long will the effects of treatment last?

Juvéderm  ULTRA SMILE has a unique formulation that’s designed for results that last. In one study, over 78% of those treated maintained the improvement for more than a year after a single treatment!

Are there any side effects?

As with any treatment that involves injections, there are a few minor risks. As with any dermal filler, inflammatory reactions (redness, swelling, etc.), along with irritation or pain upon application of pressure, may occur after the initial injection. These reactions are typically temporary in nature. Lumps or nodules may appear at the injection site and it is very common to be able to feel the "lumpiness" with your tongue even though it is not visible to others. Very rare cases of reversible colouring at the injection area have been reported.

Attending for your appointment

Try and attend around 15 minutes prior to the appointment time, to allow some time to complete the new patient health questionnaire and registration forms.
All of our clinics are centrally located with excellent road and rail links. Some clinics have their own private car parks on-site. The Nottingham clinic has metered parking immediately outside the building as well as being immediately adjacent to an NCP car park on Mount Street.
Private GP
Our appointment times may run over due to emergencies that arise occasionally, so you should allow enough time for metered parking to accomodate this. We recommend paying for an hours worth of parking if using on-street meters.

Appointment times are not restricted and the doctor will spend as long as is necessary to take a thorough medical history and to perform a clinical examination where necessary. Chaperones will be avaiable for sensitive examinations and you are welcome to attend with as many friends or relatives as you wish.

You can discuss as many medical issues as you feel necessary that are causing you concern. The doctor will be fully attentive and will be trying to help identify the best care pathway to optimise your clinical care, whether that involves reassurance only, some investigations or a referral to a private specialist consultant.

Aftercare

Blood results are typically available the following working day. Urine results usually take 2-3 working days.

We allow 2-3 days for result turnaround for attendees over the weekend who have had blood and/or urine tests.

Imaging results such as X-ray/MRI/CT/Ultrasound can take up to 5 days as we are dependent upon them being reported by the consultants at the local private hospitals.
All results are conveyed to you and discussed with you by the requesting doctor.
You are encouraged to have access to your results so that a shared care management plan can be implemented.

All results can be forwarded to you by e-mail, fax or hard copy. Hardware such as compact discs and x-ray films are your possessions and will be sent to you or they can be collected by you in person from the clinic.
Private Sexual Health Clinic
The doctor will discuss whether any further follow-up is necessary and will make arrangements by way of a further face to face consultation, a telephone consultation or a referral to a hospital consultant.

You will be made fully aware of the care pathway recommended and whether this is going to be best accessed through the private sector or the NHS route, dependent upon a number of factors, not least the most financially acceptable model for each patient.

A report will be issued highlighting the significant clinical findings, which can be discussed with other healthcare professionals if needed.

Fitness versus Health- How to Maintain the optimum balance By Dr Bobby Ahmed

Fitness versus Health

Want to feel better, have more energy and perhaps even live longer?

Look no further than exercise. The health benefits of regular exercise and physical activity are hard to ignore. And the benefits of exercise are yours for the taking, regardless of your age, sex or physical ability. Need more convincing to exercise? Check out these seven ways exercise can improve your life.

No. 1: Exercise controls weight

Exercise can help prevent excess weight gain or help maintain weight loss. When you engage in physical activity, you burn calories. The more intense the activity, the more calories you burn. You don't need to set aside large chunks of time for exercise to reap weight-loss benefits. If you can't do an actual workout, get more active throughout the day in simple ways — by taking the stairs instead of the elevator or revving up your household chores.

No. 2: Exercise combats health conditions and diseases

Worried about heart disease? Hoping to prevent high blood pressure? No matter what your current weight, being active boosts high-density lipoprotein (HDL), or "good," cholesterol and decreases unhealthy triglycerides. This one-two punch keeps your blood flowing smoothly, which decreases your risk of cardiovascular diseases. In fact, regular physical activity can help you prevent or manage a wide range of health problems and concerns, including stroke, metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, depression, certain types of cancer, arthritis and falls.

No. 3: Exercise improves mood

Need an emotional lift? Or need to blow off some steam after a stressful day? A workout at the gym or a brisk 30-minute walk can help. Physical activity stimulates various brain chemicals that may leave you feeling happier and more relaxed. You may also feel better about your appearance and yourself when you exercise regularly, which can boost your confidence and improve your self-esteem.

No. 4: Exercise boosts energy

Regular physical activity can improve your muscle strength and boost your endurance. Exercise and physical activity deliver oxygen and nutrients to your tissues and help your cardiovascular system work more efficiently. And when your heart and lungs work more efficiently, you have more energy to go about your daily chores.
